About Us
Sammar Park Samms is situated at Loomberah, just 20 minutes south of Tamworth, not too far past Farrer Agricultural school.
We are newcomers to the breed, having purchased our flock from ‘Glenorie Samm Co’ in April, 2009.
At this time we were running cattle, but looking to make the move into sheep. Barry was highly impressed when, at the urging of his mate who was shearing for Glenorie Samm Co, he went to take a look at the Samms. We had not actually heard of Samms prior to this. Barry was immediately taken by the size and temperament of the breed. After much discussion and a lot of research into the history of the breed, Barry felt that Samms were the way to go for our business.
It has been a hectic time and a steep learning curve since that decision was made! We not only had to build sheep yards and a shearing shed, but we also put in quite a few kilometres travelling to look at the more established studs in NSW and South Australia.
Samm breeders, we have found, are committed and enthusiastic about the breed. Everyone we have spoken to so far has been generous in sharing their experiences and knowledge with us. The goodwill expressed by others in the industry has been heartening. The thing that has struck us the most is the passion they all share for the future of the Samm breed in Australia, a passion that we share. South African Meat Merino’s continue to impress us and we have a strong belief in their future in both the Australian meat and wool industries.
We look forward to being a part of the Samm industry for a long time to come.
Regards,
Barry and Diane
